Zip provides efficient compression and storage of files of any size.

Zip for OpenVMS can preserve RMS File and Record Attributes

Zip for OpenVMS can produce .ZIP archives which are compatible with PKUnzip.

Unzip for OpenVMS will restore only what is present in the archive.

Zip provides better compression than DCX, but can be slightly less efficient than Gnu-Zip.

Zip can preserve all OpenVMS and RMS file and Record attributes, if instructed to do so.

Zip can also produce archives suitable for use on both DOS and UN*X using either Unzip or PKUnzip.

Unzip can only restore VMS/RMS attributes if they were stored in the archive by Zip. Unzip can do nothing to recover files that were Zip-ped incorrectly.
