Stand-alone Backup for DOS Page

If you're like most PC people, the answer to that question is probably "no", or at best, a resounding "maybe".

DJE Systems has an answer!

We've developed a method by which you can boot-up a minimal DOS system, partition and re-format your hard drive - especially useful if you replace or upgrade - then run a copy of your tape backup software installation to restore everything from your most recent full backup.

We call it "Stand-alone Backup for DOS" or "STABAKIT". You get FDISK, FORMAT, CHKDSK, SCANDISK and the DOS Editor if these programs are present on your existing hard-disk. You can then restore your existing backup software installation onto the "stand-alone" system and use it to restore your hard-disk files.

STABAKIT uses your existing DOS installation - no new license is required. STABAKIT has been tested with MS-DOS V3.3 through V6.22. It does not currently support MS-DOS V7, a.k.a. Windows/95; hence, there is currently no support for "long" file names.

STABAKIT uses your existing backup software - no new license is required. STABAKIT has been tested with the Trakker backup software from Colorado Memory Systems (now owned by Hewlett Packard) and with the "QBACKUP" software from Arcada (now owned by Seagate) which is distributed with many tape drives from Iomega and their VARs. It should support any non-Windows backup software.

NOTE:

This is an alpha-test release - we'd like you help us shake out some more of the problems.

STABAKIT is NOT public domain, and may not be sold or, if modified, redistributed. If you develop any fixes for problems in STABACKIT, you should submit them to DJE Systems for inclusion in the next release of the product - your contribution will be gratefully acknowledged.
