@CLS@ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Bulletin # 20 The D. Joseph Benedict Manifesto Updated: 02/28/98 | --------------------------------------------------------------------------- D. Joseph Benedict is the "nomme d'plume" of our own @BBS@ Sysop, David J. Dachtera. Watch this space for the current state of a work-in-progress, the D. Joseph Benedict Manifesto - a collection of thoughts, opinions, statements and musings regarding the Internet, OpenVMS, The Liturgy, Liturgical Music and secular music, and many other topics. On OpenVMS... The powerful and stable operating system we all know and love, now known as "OpenVMS", has carried many companies from their first fledgling steps into the world of "micro EDP" into the "new age" of three tier client/server. In all EDP-dom, there is no parallel. UNIX is a wanna-be, at best (although nowadays it is VASTLY more stable than in its early years outside of its home on PDP's). DOS never could even dream about the kind of power, feature richness and overall stability of OpenVMS. Windows (sometimes called "Whine-Doze") follows DOS's suit. Then, of course, there's the PICKs, the IRIXes, AOSes, the OS/this and OS/that, etc. All of these suffer from severe feature poverty and instability compared to OpenVMS. And yet, in spite of this, these "wanna-be" operating systems have far outstripped OpenVMS, in some case, in terms of market acceptance and appeal.
